With the nights starting to draw in and autumn just around the corner, now is the perfect time to get ahead and prepare your garden for the cooler, wetter days to come. Here are some of the most important jobs to keep your garden looking good all year round.

Lawn maintenance & repair

September and October usually provide the best conditions for carrying out lawn maintenance, with enough time for them to recover before winter sets in. This can include scarifying to remove thatch, aerating to improve airflow and moisture levels, top-dressing to improve texture and drainage for stronger roots or applying autumn specific lawn feed to encourage root growth throughout the winter months.

It can also be useful to have leaves or other loose debris  removed to prevent your lawn from being smothered. If your lawn has areas of damage, now is the time for re-seeding or turfing them.

Garden Bed Tidy Up

If you want beautiful garden beds next spring/summer, it starts with preparation now to maintain good soil and prevent disease and pests. This covers jobs like pruning, deadheading , weeding and removal of debris.

Now is also the time for mulching and planting certain spring-flowering bulbs, which we are able to  advise, source and plant for you.

Cutting back and pruning

This is the best time for the final hedge trim before the weather gets too cold and damp. It is also good to make sure any annual climbers are cut back and certain types of trees are pruned to ensure continued growth.

Planting trees and shrubs

The cooler climate with higher moisture levels provides the best conditions to plant trees and shrubs, which we can do for you, including sourcing them if you wish.
